Got Beef? – Fast Food Nation Celebrates National Burger Day with Deals, But One Chain Has Bad News

Look for great deals between the buns this Wednesday.
Wednesday is National Burger Day, and national chains are offering great deals for fans of beef patties on sesame seed buns. Local restaurants are probably doing the same, so be sure to drop in on your favorite burger joint for the tastiest, most deeply-discounted hamburger you can find. (Keep in mind that a lot of the deals being offered are app-only.)
National chain restaurants have already announced their specials for the hamburger high holy day. At Wendy’s, you can get a Wendy’s Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger for a penny when you purchase through the app, and the deal is good from May 28th through June 1st. McDonald’s is currently offering a free Big Mac with a $1 minimum purchase through their app.
Rally’s is offering its Cheese Double combo with large fries for only $3 on May 28th. Over at Sonic, half-price cheeseburgers are already on the menu when you order through the app through Wednesday. Also, enjoy half-price shakes after 5pm through the end of the month.

White Castle is celebrating – or “Sliderbating” with 25 cent Sliders through the end of the month. At Shake Shack, you can get a free ShackBurger with any $10 purchase through June 1. Customers must use the code “BURGERMONTH” when ordering.
Don’t want to go out? Grubhub+ members can take advantage of the delivery service’s Memorial Day “Munchies” deals running through June 1st, with the restaurants they service running their own deals. If you want to grill your own patties, head to the Kroger chain of grocery stores, which include Ralph’s and Fry’s for a Private Selection 6-pack of Angus Beef Chuck Patties for $6.99 with a digital coupon, good through May 31st.
But it’s not all good news in Burger-land. Hardee’s, a mostly East Coast chain, could lose 76 restaurants unless a major franchise operator wins a legal challenge against the parent company. Paradigm Investment Group claims Hardee’s parent company CKE Restaurants is using “heavy-handed” tactics to terminate the franchise agreements with Paradigm.
At the center of the dispute are 76 Hardee’s locations in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida that could be forced to close if the company’s franchise termination effort succeeds. Those restaurants close at 2pm, mostly due to understaffing and lack of business, according to Paradigm’s suit, filed in a Tennessee US District court.
Paradigm wants to prevent the contract termination, and also seeks $35 million dollars in compensatory damages. No hearing dates have been set for the lawsuit.
