A Howling Good Time: Blumhouse Drops First Trailer for ‘Wolf Man’ Remake Teasing the New Transformation FX
You hear a strange noise coming from outside and wonder: is that a wild animal or is it a man?
Why not both? In the new teaser trailer for Wolf Man, Blumhouse’s “reimagined” version of the 1941 Universal classic monster movie, The Wolf Man, Christopher Abbot (Poor Things) plays a man whose discovers that his family is being hunted by some kind of dangerous predator.
“It sounded like an animal,” Abbott says in the trailer. “But I swear to God, it was standing on two feet.”
Officially, the movie centers on Abbot’s character Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, “who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner, Ozark), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth).
“But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.”
Sam Jaeger, Ben Prendergast, and Benedict Hardie also star. Leigh Whannell directs from a script by Rebecca Angelo, Lauren Schuker Blum and Corbett Tuck. Jason Blum is producing Wolf Man along with Ryan Gosling and Whannell. Gosling was at one point attached as the lead, but then stepped behind the camera instead.
Wolf Man leads Abbott and Garner previously starred together in another film, the 2011 thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Wolf Man lopes into theaters on January 17th, 2025.
