In The Fetus, expectant mother Lauren LaVera would do well to skip those pre-natal vitamins.

That’s because whatever she’s gestating is not like other babies, at all. LaVera stars as Alessa, a woman who is shocked to learn she’s pregnant and, with her boyfriend, begins investigating the source of her difficult pregnancy, which turns out to be of a demonic origin.

Horror icon Bill Moseley plays Alessa’s father, Maddox, who kidnaps Alessa and her boyfriend Chris (Julian Curtis) while they are visiting him, and reveals that her demon spawn needs to feed in a way far more violent than most unborn babes do. Maddox helps the hungry fetus to ingest other peoples, which it does by sending its tentacle(s) out in search of victims.

If you’re squeamish, pregnant, or both, be warned that this may not be the film for you.

LaVera played the final girl in Terrifier 3, and is a shoo-in to star in the inevitable next installment in that horror franchise.

Joe Lam, known mainly for producing short films, wrote, directed and produced The Fetus, which is coming from Shining Light Pictures and Barbhouse Productions. Amy Arena also stars.

Lam said in a statement that, “With The Fetus, I wanted to delve into the emotional terrain of Alessa’s unplanned pregnancy, exploring the complexities it imposes on her relationships with her father Maddox and her partner Chris. The fetus becomes a metaphorical antagonist, unraveling both Chris and Alessa’s psyche, leading them on a haunting journey of fear, self-discovery, and the intricate web of family dynamics. Ultimately, I hope this story challenges the boundaries of the horror genre.”

The Fetus is due to be delivered to theaters in March.
