Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell are heading to The Great Beyond.

Sci-fi sites are reporting that J.J. Abrams’ (Star Wars/Lost) upcoming fantasy movie, set to star Wednesday‘s Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick will be titled The Great Beyond. This info comes from a new Writers Guild of America listing which confirms the title and classifies it as a dramatic action-adventure entry.

The Great Beyond will also star Emma Mackey and Samuel L. Jackson. Filming is complete and the movie is in post-production. It was shot on location in London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh in Europe, as well as Providence, Rhode Island, earlier this year

Character details and the film’s plot have yet to be revealed, but there is some speculation that this may be a prestige film from Warner Bros., which in 2025 released Sinners and One Battle After Another, both sure to rake in the awards this season.

Abrams’ last directorial effort was the not-very-well-received The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. He signed a lucrative deal with Warner Bros. that same year, but hasn’t earned any of the reported $250 million yet.

Abrams is also working on the next film in the big-screen Star Trek franchise he re-launched in 2009; screenwriter Steve Yockey is penning the fourth film which will reunite Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the Enterprise crew.
