The Queen Mary, moored outside of Long Beach, California, has a haunting reputation. Or perhaps haunted is a better word.

That reputation of the ship, once dubbed “The Grey Ghost” when it stealthily crossed the Atlantic carrying troops during World War II, now comes from the ghosts that are said to be haunting its rooms, hallways and decks. That frightful history is the basis for a new supernatural horror-mystery called Haunting Of The Queen Mary, coming from Dracula Untold director Gary Shore.

The film, previously titled The Queen Mary, explores the mysterious and violent events surrounding a family’s voyage on Halloween night in 1938, which is interwoven with the modern day story of Anne Caulder, played by Alice Eve, and husband Patrick (Joel Fry) who board the infamous ship with their young son Lukas, played by Lenny Rush.

On a tour of the ship, young Lukas goes missing, and his parents have to venture into the terrifying bowels of the ship, where restless and vengeful spirits are trapped but desperate to escape, in order to find him.

Haunting also stars Nell Hudson (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and William Shockley (Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman).

Stephen Oliver and Tom Vaughan wrote the script, with Shore. The film is produced by Brett Matthew Tomberlin, Thorsten Schumacher, Lars Sylvest, Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall and Mali Elfman.

Shooting of the film took place aboard the actual Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach and is currently open for tours, both ghostly and otherwise.

Production company Vertical will release the film on August 18th, 2023 in a handful of theaters and on demand the same day.
