An Official (And Unofficial) New Look At Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn In ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’
Fans of Lady Gaga (or of the first Joker movie) have two new ways to see what she looks like in the production of Joker: Folie à Deux.
A new set photo released by director Todd Phillips’ on his Instagram feed gives fans a better look at Lady Gaga’s look as Harley Quinn in the movie, as she intently stares at Joaquin Phoenix as the title character. Both Gaga and Phoenix look disheveled and intense, with smeared makeup and, well, something like love blazing between the pair.
Also available is some camera phone footage of a heist scene in action, posted by @gaga_legion on Twitter. The scene, shot from about a block away, shows Gaga breaking a storefront window and stealing a television set.
Another tweet shows a closeup of Gaga in costume, looking unblinkingly at the camera.
The footage seems to confirm that the movie will take place in the 1980s, in a winter setting, with Gotham City still the grimy hellscape it was in the previous film.
The character of Harley Quinn was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series. Harley was psychologist Harleen Quinzel, who was working at Arkham Asylum when she was assigned to the Joker. Being in close contact with the deranged criminal eventually drove her to a life of crime, and she became her to dub herself Harley Quinn and assist the Joker in his criminal mayhem.
This film is a sequel to 2019’s Joker, which became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, and amassed a number of important awards, including a Best Actor Academy Award for Joaquin Phoenix. Todd Phillips returned to direct and write Joker: Folie à Deux, using the singer in a more musical interpretation of The Joker’s partner in both crime and romance.
Joker: Folie à Deux is currently scheduled to open in theaters on Oct. 4th, 2024.
