He sees you when you’re stealing.

In Violent Night, Stranger Things hero David Harbour plays very much to type as a kickass Kris Kringle, who interrupts a burglary in progress when he drops down the right chimney at the wrong time. The movie will be released to theaters by Universal Pictures on December 2nd.

Yes, Virginia (and others), Santa Claus is real, and he’s real mad that some baddies from his naughty list (led by John Leguizamo) are holding a family with a sweet little kid hostage as they try to relieve them of 3 million dollars. So he uses his Santa magic to try to defeat them and save the little girl.

Directed by Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Violent Night also stars Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson and Beverly D’Angelo. Original screenplay was written by Pat Casey & Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog).

Attendees of New York Comic Con will get the present of an early screening of the film on October 7th. Harbour first teased the project at CinemaCon in April, where the actor spoke to a packed house at Caesar’s Palace.

“Who doesn’t love a great action movie, right?” Harbour asked the crowd of convention attendees. “How about Christmas movies? So, what about a movie that’s a great action movie and the greatest Christmas movie in one? Die Hard. F***ing Die Hard. Now what if… wait a minute, wait a minute. What if kickass director Tommy Wirkola and the badass producers at 87North, you know, the maniacs who did Atomic Blonde and John Wick and Nobody and Hobbs & Shaw, were behind it all? And, wait a minute, what if I starred in it as fucking Santa Claus?”

Presumably the response was positive, because the film will slide down cinema chimneys in December.
