In the Arcadian trailer, something is out there, but it only stalks its prey at night.

Nicolas Cage plays Paul, a single dad trying to protect his two teen sons in the aftermath of some sort of apocalyptic event that was caused by nocturnal creatures that want to make the human race extinct.

“There are those who believe they came after the pollution people caused,” intones a weary Paul over scenes of a smog-enveloped city, “and they’re here to cleanse the planet of the human race so we’ll all become extinct.”

Paul’s sons Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell) are trying to survive in a world where mysterious creatures that only come out at night, when they attack the Earth’s dwindling population. When Thomas doesn’t return home before sundown one day, Paul ventures out to find him, and “a nightmarish battle ensues that forces the family to execute a desperate plan to survive,” according to the film’s synopsis.

Arcadian also stars Sadie Soverall as the reason Thomas was out until dark.

This will be Cage’s first film of 2024, so the actor will have to work hard if he wants to match his 2023 stats. Cage appeared in six films last year, including The Old Way, Renfield, Butcher’s Crossing, Sympathy for the Devil, The Retirement Plan and Dream Scenario. Cage also had an uncredited cameo in The Flash, which to be fair, was shot years before its release.

Benjamin Brewer, who directed Cage in 2016’s The Trust, will lens Arcadian. Michael Nilon wrote the screenplay, and also produces along with David Wulf, Arianne Frasier, and Cage. RLJE Films is distributing the film.

The movie will premiere at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas on March 1st, then will hit a theater near you on April 12th.
