Fall 2: Deadpoint revisits the idea posited in 2022’s Fall that a dangerous stunt climb with a nearly 100% chance of death or serious injury is preferable to therapy when it comes to dealing with soul-crushing grief.

Many, many therapists would surely disagree. Nevertheless, the characters of Fall 2 commit to the option more likely to damage their bodies rather than challenge their emotions. The film’s logline reads, “still grieving the [SPOILER!] loss of her sister, Shiloh, (who died in Fall), Jax (Harriet Slater) agrees to a tribute proposed by Shiloh’s daring friend, Luce (Arsema Thomas). The two travel to Thailand to conquer a treacherous plank walk on Mount Kwan. However, a sudden rockslide leaves them trapped at a terrifying height of 3,000 feet, forcing the duo to push their limits and cooperate to stay alive.”

The plot of Fall had Shiloh Hunter convincing her friend Becky to do a stupidly reckless climb up an abandoned TV tower in honor of Becky’s dead husband, who perished from a fall off a mountain. Becky survived, Shiloh did not, and it seems obvious that no lessons were learned by her sister. Thus, the cycle of idiocy remains unbroken.

In the sequel we see Jax and Luce on a plank bolted into the side of a mountain. Both are looking at a backpack dangling from a bolt that’s between two sections of the plank. Then Luce, who apparently drew the short straw, heads toward the pack with only the bolts in the side of the mountain to stand on. She takes one step too many and a bolt gives way. Just as that part of the trailer ends, we see her begin to fall.

Fall 2 was directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, known collectively as The Spierig Brothers, who also directed Jigsaw and Winchester. Scott Mann returned to co-write the script with Fall scribe Jonathan Frank. Tom Brittany also stars.

Lionsgate is dropping Fall 2: Deadpoint into theaters beginning September 2nd.
