Casting Calls: Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in Paul Feig Drama; Will Smith Reteams with Michael Bay
Sydney Sweeney is teaming with Amanda Seyfried for a new drama, and Will Smith may reunite with director Michael Bay for a Netflix actioner.
Lionsgate is finalizing the negotioations for the cast and director of its upcoming drama The Housemaid. Paul Feig has been tapped to direct the Hidden Pictures project. The screenplay is by Rebecca Sonnenshine, based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden.
Sweeney will play Millie, a struggling woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and her partner Andrew, an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.
The Housemaid novel has been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 75 weeks, and on the Amazon bestsellers list for 98 weeks, still holding its own on both lists. Todd Lieberman will produce for Hidden Pictures.
Meanwhile, on Netflix, it looks like Will Smith and Michael Bay, who launched Smith’s successful Bad Boys franchise, are reuniting. No official deal is in place, but Bey is likely to direct the action-comedy Fast and Loose, starring Smith.
Fast and Loose follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been been leading a double life as both a crime kingpin and an undercover CIA agent.
The script was written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch for 87North will produce the pic with Smith, who has been developing the script for a while now. After Bad Boys: Ride or Die proved a box office success, a few of his projects became fast-tracked, including this one. Smith recently dropped out of the movie Sugar Bandits, thus freeing himself for Fast and Loose.
No release dates or other casting information is known for either film at this time.
