Jamie Foxx, who played classic Spiderman baddie Electro in the largely-ignored The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is in final talks to return to the screen as the amped-up villain in the next Tom Holland-led Spiderman flick, The Hollywood Reporter said today.

Foxx’s Electro was the foil for Andrew Garfield’s Spidey in the underwhelming sequel, but though his performance was panned by many a fanboy and critic, he’ll get another chance in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home, which Sony currently (stay tuned) plans to release in December 2021. The movie will be a joint Sony-Marvel production again.

This isn’t the first time a casting choice has linked two different Spider-Man franchises: J.K. Simmons reprised his utterly perfect take on J. Jonah Jameson from 2002’s Spider-Man in Far From Home.

Marvel had no comment, and there have been no story details leaked so far. Are you excited to see Foxx return? The third modern movie iteration of Spider-Man is the one that charmed, so we can hope Electro will have the juice this time.
