Endless ‘Summer’: Jennifer Love-Hewitt In Talks to Appear in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Sequel
Jennifer Love-Hewitt may be taking on “the hook” one more time.
The actress revealed in an Entertanment Tonight interview that she is in talks to reprise her role as Julie James, the character she played in 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, and its 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer for an all new sequel premiering in 2025.
Love-Hewitt told ET, “it’s in the cooker, let me just say that. I’ve done a couple of preliminary phone calls. I keep getting these messages from people going, ‘We’re so excited!’ I’m like, ‘Okay, but the train is moving really fast, and I haven’t gotten there yet.'”
The original film, directed by Jim Gillespie and written by Kevin Williamson, follows four friends who become the targets of a sinister killer after a hit-and-run the previous summer. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillipe and Freddie Prinze Jr. played the other friends. Both Love-Hewitt and Prinze returned for the 1998 sequel, but it’s not known if Prinze has been approached to come back for the film opening next year.
Love-Hewitt explained in the interview that the idea of coming back seemed both exciting and overwhelming.
“[I]t’s nice to know that people are excited at the possibility. Honestly, it’s wild to even think about. Truly, if it comes together, I don’t even know how I’m gonna feel except extremely overwhelmed and grateful,” said the actress.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson who wrote and directed Do Revenge is attached to direct the film from a screenplay by Leah McKendrick, who wrote and directed Scrambled. The as-yet untitled fourth film is slated for a July 18th, 2025 release date.
