The bad CGI alligator in Bad CGI Gator is a feature, not a bug.

Full Moon Features, the studio behind Gingerdead Man, Evil Bong and Gingerdead Man vs Evil Bong, as well as the upcoming movie mashup Barbenheimer, released a trailer for their new film Bad CGI Gator on Tuesday, and you definitely get what you pay for in this flick.

The trailer features a sextet of generic teenage stereotypes who are celebrating being out of school at a cabin in the swamplands of Georgia. When they toss their laptops in the lake in what the film’s official description calls “an act of teenage defiance,” the resulting electrical surge turns a nearby alligator into a monstrous, ravenous beast that swells up to gargantuan dimensions and defies gravity – yes, I know, but just roll with it – as it makes a meal of the teens, one by one.

The trailer shows that the movie knows it’s not to be taken seriously, at one point claiming the gator is suffering from “a reptile dysfunction,” then promising “high quality carnage” from a “low quality monster.” It’s a refreshing bit of honesty from a studio known for B-Movies (and C, D, and Z-grade films.)

Rather than apologize for the state of their special effects here, the company is embracing it. Charles Band, CEO and founder of Full Moon Features, issued a statement, saying, “I’ve long been against the overuse of CGI in genre films, and in many ways, this movie is a fun, tongue-in-cheek antidote to that. When done right, CGI is a great tool to accent special effects. When done wrong…well, we get Bad CGI Gator! Get ready!”

Full Moon’s PR team wants you to know that they’re mocking themselves, so you don’t have to. They declare in a statement, “Sharknado, Slither, Eight Legged Freaks, Piranha… our streaming services are saturated with ridiculous flicks, featuring extra-large monsters wreaking havoc ala bad CGI. Now, Bad CGI Gator writer, Zalman Band, director, Danny Draven, and Full Moon Features are taking this pop culture phenomenon and well… poking fun!”

If you still want to take a stab at getting snarky with Bad CGI Gator, and I do, you can watch it on Amazon Prime Video and FullMoonfeatures.com beginning November 24th.
