First Look at Natalie Portman Levitating in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
You will believe Natalie Portman can fly.
London’s Daily Mail was in Sydney, Australia, on location as Portman filmed a scene from Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth movie in the Norse god Avenger’s franchise.
The set photos released by the publication reveal Jane Foster’s costume before she becomes the Mighty Thor as she gets raised up by blue-clad crew members for her levitating scene, though whether she is hovering through her own power or some other means is unclear.
Marvel Studios announced the fourth Thor movie at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, and many fans thought the the biggest surprise from that panel was that Natalie Portman would return as Jane Foster, who hasn’t filmed a Marvel Cinematic Universe film since Thor: The Dark World.
The return of Portman as Jane Foster was made all the more exciting with the reveal that she will be becoming Thor, with all the powers held by Chris Hemsworth’s characters.
Jane’s transformation into Mighty Thor is one of many reasons why Thor: Love and Thunder is so highly anticipated among MCU fans. There is also a lot of curiosity surrounding what her story will be. In the comics, Jane becomes Thor after being diagnosed with cancer.
In that story, the power that came from Mjolnir and her Thor transformations made her chemotherapy ineffective. Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has not released plot details, so fans can only speculate about how she will make the transformation.
The setting for this scene is New Asgard, so it seems Jane will be visiting there at some point, and Tessa Thompson’s presence on set indicates a team up between Jane and Valkyrie. This could be the scene where Jane gains her godlike powers, as Portman’s levitating scene was filmed with Thompson on set.
