It’s not Godzilla vs. Kong anymore – they’re playing for the same team now.

In Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer, we see the two epic monsters in attack mode, but they aren’t fighting each other for a change. In the film, due out in 2024, Godzilla and Kong are up against “a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own,” according to the movie’s official description.

The New Empire is not within the same universe as the recently released Godzilla Minus One from Toho Studios. This film is the MonsterVerse’s fifth feature, following Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).

In addition to the feature films, Legendary has produced two televised entries in the franchise which came out this year: the anime series Skull Island on Netflix and the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+.

Adam Wingard is once again directing after helming Godzilla vs. Kong. Dan Stevens, who worked with Wingard on The Guest in 2014, joins returning cast members Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle. Fala Chen, Alex Ferns and Rachel House are also in the cast. Wingard directs from a script by Terry Rossio, Simon Barrett and Jeremy Slater.

The New Empire was originally slated to roar into theaters on March 15th of next year, but was moved to April 12th, 2024.
