They’re back!

Yes, Eddie Brock-slash-Venom, one of Marvel’s most complicated situationships, is returning for a third installment of the Sony Spider-Man villains franchise featuring them called Venom: The Last Dance.

Sony says of the film, “for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom (Tom Hardy) are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.” The studio confirmed that this is final film in the Venom trilogy.

The trailer opens with Eddie and Venom making short work of ordinary goons before learning that they have bigger fish to…eat? They discover that a massive, symbiote alien from Venom’s home planet is headed their way with an army “that cannot be beaten,” and they are also being hunted by government agents (Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor) who want to use them to help Earth fight back against the alien horde.

“We may not make it out of this alive, buddy,” Hardy warns Venom, as a title card reads, “‘Til Death Do They Part.”

There is also a scene where Brock and Venom “venomize” a horse and take it for a spin.

So far, the Venom films have been a success for Sony. The original Venom grossed $856 million at the worldwide box office, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage which premiered during the pandemic, drawing in $502 million worldwide. Venom, which is a Sony property, briefly transitioned to the MCU in a Spider-Man: No Way Home post-credits scene, but aside from the sticky bit of symbiote goo he left behind, has yet to return there.

The film also stars Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham. The film is directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she wrote, based on a story by Hardy and Marcel.

Venom: The Last Dance will hit theaters on October 25th, 2024.
