She’s back! And he’s there for the very first time.

The “she” in question is Jasmin Savoy Brown, who is returning to her role in the Scream franchise’s latest movie. And “he” is Joel McHale, who was just cast as Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell’s) heretofore unnamed husband, Mark Evans, in Scream VII.

Brown will return to Woodsboro as Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream VII, the third consecutive time she has played the character in the Scream film series. When she’s not running from the Ghostface killer, Brown can be found playing the role of the teen version of Taissa in the hit TV series, Yellowjackets. She most recently starred in the 2024 drama Dreams in Nightmares.

Mason Gooding has already re-joined the cast in the role of Mindy’s twin, Chad Meeks-Martin.

McHale stars in the Fox series Animal Control , which just began its third season, and played Jeff Winger in the cult hit comedy Community, and is executive-producing the upcoming movie based on the series. He also has a recurring role as the cruel Chef David in The Bear.

McHale’s casting was a bit of a surprise, and not because of the actor. Sidney Prescott’s previously-mentioned but unseen husband Mark was assumed by many fans to be Patrick Dempsey’s character Detective Mark Kincaid. Dempsey even mentioned that he was waiting for a script last October, but at that point he hadn’t been signed for the movie.

In the 2022 Scream movie and its sequel, 2023’s Scream VI, a few characters referred to Sidney’s husband as “Mark,” which led many to believe they were referring to Mark Kincaid, who joined the franchise in 2000 in Scream 3.

Thursday’s announcement, however, made it official that Dempsey’s and Campbell’s characters did not in fact have an off-screen wedding.

Courteney Cox is also returning in her role as Gale Weathers, and Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp are among the franchise’s new faces.

Scream VII begain shooting in Atlanta earlier this month and is slated for a February 2026 release.
