‘Mad Max’ Prequel Finds Its Furiosa
It’s official: Warner Bros. has cast Anya Taylor-Joy, a star of the X-Men New Mutants film and Last Night in Soho, as the younger version of Charlize Theron’s character in the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road.
Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who won an Emmy for Watchmen, were also cast in yet-to-be-named roles. There has been no announcement of Tom Hardy returning for this outing, and it seems unlikely.
Miller will direct the script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris, though shooting will be delayed. Not only due to pandemic concerns, but Miller is still directing his current film Three Thousand Years of Longing. Miller told The New York Times that “hopefully everything settles down with the pandemic” and that “we’ll see what the world allows us to do with Furiosa.”
Miller’s schedule isn’t the only issue: Hemsworth is due to start filming the latest sequel in his Norse god saga Thor: Love and Thunder in January. So while this is great casting news, you’re going to have to put this one in your 2021-2022 planner.
