Marvel Execs Tap ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Writing Team to Pen ‘Deadpool 3’ Script
Fans asked for it, and Marvel listened. Deadpool 3 is definitely on, despite ownership of the potty-mouthed character transferring from 20th Century Fox to the more family friendly folks at Disney. And now we know who’s writing the script.
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin, writers for Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers, were selected by Marvel execs and star Ryan Reynolds. The pair, along with a slew of other writers, pitched their story ideas for the sequel, and as Deadline reports, their vision matched most closely to what Reynolds and Marvel wanted.
The hiring of the writers, who are sisters, is the first step towards getting the movie made. This will be the first Deadpool movie developed by the Marvel production team, but fans who are worried that Wade Wilson will lose his edge should rest easy – according to Deadline‘s sources, the new film will have an ‘R’ rating.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige oversaw the transition of Spider-Man from a Sony property to a Marvel entity, and those movies were very well-received, so there is probably nothing to worry fans at this point.
David Leitch, who directed Deadpool 2, may not return to helm this sequel. Leitch’s directorial services are spoken for through 2021, but even though there’s no set start date for DP3, the fact that he wasn’t involved in selecting the writers is a clue that he won’t be back.
The Molyneux sisters are the creators, showrunners and executive producers of the new Fox series The Great North, which is set to premiere in February. It has already been renewed for a second season. The writing partners won an Emmy for Bob’s Burgers back in 2017, and were nominated for an Emmy for eight consecutive years.
