Monster-in-Law: Brandy Returns to the Genre Facing the Grandmother from Hell in A24’s ‘The Front Room’
In-laws: it seems like they are always butting into your marriage, dropping in unexpectedly, or channeling the Holy Ghost in an effort to steal your unborn child, right?
That’s the premise behind A24’s The Front Room, starring Brandy Norwood in her first horror film since 1998’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. Norwood plays Belinda, a woman expecting her first child who finds she and her husband must take in his mother after his father dies.
“Everything goes to hell for newly-pregnant Belinda (Brandy) after her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere…” says the official synopsis.
The film also stars Neal Huff and Andrew Burnap. Max and Sam Eggers adapted the script from a short story of the same name by Susan Hill. Both Eggers brothers are making their directorial debut; they are frequent collaborators with their other brother, Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse.)
The Front Room will claw its way into theaters on September 6th.
