Deadpool is probably polishing up his Ben Affleck jokes now.

Thanks (possibly) to manipulations of the multiverse that has brought together characters from Sony, Marvel/Disney, and 20th Century Fox, the fourth wall-breaking character will be joined by Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, making her MCU-official.

Garner first played Elektra opposite then-husband Ben Affleck in 20th Century Fox’s reasonably successful Daredevil movie back in 2003. Garner reprised her role in Elektra two years later, a film that bombed at the box office and with fans and critics.

Joining Garner is Hugh Jackman, who is appearing as Wolverine in the film, which will feature a growing slate of non-MCU Marvel movie characters, including the title character. The character of Daredevil/Matt Murdock was introduced into the MCU last year, although it was the version first seen in Netflix’s Daredevil streaming series, and the character was played by Charlie Cox, not Affleck.

This is a wish come true for Garner, who told The Hollywood Reporter that she wishes Kevin Feige had been in charge when she first donned the costume. “It’s such a shame, honestly, because once Kevin took over everything there was elevated: the writing, the direction, the comedy inside of the stories they were telling,” she said. “And I did not have that experience.”

This is a reteaming for Reynolds and Garner, who last worked together in 2022’s The Adam Project, which was also directed by Deadpool lensman Shawn Levy. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script and Feige, Levy and Reynolds are producing. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) joins the cast this time around, and Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand and Leslie Uggams are returning from the previous two Deadpool films, and Rob Delaney is rumored to return as well.

Deadpool 3 is the first movie featuring the “Merc with a Mouth” that is exclusively from Marvel Studios, and it’s (not coincidentally, perhaps) the House of Mouse’s first R-rated feature, Its currently scheduled to open in theaters on May 3rd, 2024.
