Who will be the Big Bad in Superman: Man of Tomorrow? What will the X-men look like in Avengers: Doomsday? Will there be a Weapons prequel? What’s going on at Fantastic Fest? Stay tuned for all the news!

James Gunn may have disclosed Superman’s next foe on Threads – though he’s not confirming anything. The writer, director, and DC Studios co-head posted an image of the front page of the Man of Tomorrow script, which features a prominent illustration of a cross section of the human head, with the brain featured prominently. Gunn captioned the picture by saying “Reposting here at higher res because of some problems last time around.”

Speculation abounded as to whether Gunn was slyly saying that Brainiac will have a prominent role in the Superman sequel, but no one in charge will state unequivocally that this is true. As of right now, all we know for sure is that David Corenswet will return as the Man of Steel and Nicholas Hoult will return as Lex Luthor.

Also on the speculatory side, a member of the crew of Avengers: Doomsday showed off some merch that the production team received, and it reveals (kind of) the cast of superheroes and villains in the film, which just finished shooting. See below.

While the Fantastic Four seem to be sporting their costumes from their first film released two months ago, other Marvel heroes seem to be in comic-accurate looks, especially the X-men. James Mardsen dons the iconic blue-and-yellow suit as Cyclops, while Rebecca Romijn is also seen sporting a classic look. Chris Hemsworth is seen with his short haircut from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, and wears the darker armor. The Thunderbolts crew, Shang-Chi and Black Panther look much the same, though. The image does not put to rest rumors Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, or Tom Holland as Spider-Man will be assembling to fight Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom.

If you haven’t seen Weapons yet, this may be a bit of a spoiler, but director Zach Cregger told one horror magazine that he’s developing a sequel for his hit horror flick. The prequel will focus on the character of Aunt Gladys, played by Amy Madigan. Steel yourself and look at the picture of Madigan in makeup in Weapons.

Aunt Gladys is a “wickedly talented occult expert” according to Variety, which pulled a quote from Cregger about the prequel. “It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” Cregger told Fangoria. “There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.” Cregger said he already had the idea for the prequel before Weapons, a story about a bunch of schoolchildren who all go missing on the same night, long before the film was released to box office returns of over $260 million dollars.

And speaking of horror, here are a couple movie notes from Fantastic Fest, which hosted the premiere screening for Silent Night, Deadly Night, writer/director Mike P. Nelson’s reboot of the 1984 holiday slasher classic. The film received rave reviews from would-be critics, according to an article published by Bloody Disgusting.

Silent Night, Deadly Night had one scene that literally had people cheering,” shared film journalist Rachel Leishman. “It’s Dexter meets Christmas and I loved it.” The rebooted Silent Night Deadly Night‘s synopsis reads, “When Billy witnesses his parents’ grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice.”

You’ll be able to judge for yourself when the film lands in theaters on December 12th.

And lastly, Fantastic Fest attendees were the first to lay eyes on the official poster for Paramount’s creepy animal horror flick Primate. See below.

The synopsis for the monkey movie reads, “Home from college, Lucy reunites with family including pet chimp Ben. Ben contracts rabies during a pool party and turns aggressive. Lucy and friends barricade in [the] pool, devising ways to survive the vicious chimp.”

Johannes Roberts co-wrote the screenplay for Primate with Ernest Riera, and Johnny Sequoyah and Troy Kotsur star. Primate will be let loose in theaters on January 6th, 2026.
