Nowhere to Hide: J.K. Simmons Plays His Most Menacing Character Yet in Lionsgate’s ‘You Can’t Run Forever’
J.K. Simmons has moved on from hunting Spider-Man.
In the trailer for You Can’t Run Forever, released Monday by Lionsgate Movies, Simmons plays Wade, a serial killer with a particular target: anxiety-prone Miranda (Isabelle Anaya), who is still trying to cope with a tragic past. She becomes the target of the unhinged but ruthless Wade, and takes to the woods to elude him, using every ounce of her strength and smarts to stay alive.
You Can’t Run Forever was originally titled The Woods when it was announced back in 2021. Filming was completed in January of 2023, and the film is scheduled for a May release.
Simmons’ wife Michelle Schumacher directed the film, which also stars the couple’s daughter, Olivia Simmons. Simmons told IndieWire that the timing was just right for the family collaboration.
“I have been in a position to be able to pick and choose for quite a while now,” Simmons said. “It’s just fortunately coincided with the times when our kids were born, and family life was the most important thing. Our whole family is involved. Her brother is the producer, our daughter is in the film, our son is currently working on scoring the film. Now it’s the ideal combination of work time blended with family time — it doesn’t get much better than that.”
Fernanda Urrejola (Narcos: Mexico), Allen Leech (Bohemian Rhapsody) also star. You Can’t Run Forever opens May 17th in theaters and On Demand.
