Ghostface from Scream image from Paramount Pictures.

There’s no footage to look at, but the first poster from the upcoming Scream sequel reveals the movie’s tagline: “It’s always someone you know.” (Because it is!)

The Scream franchise will return to theaters on January 14, 2022, and the poster stays true to the film’s tradition of keeping everything in the plot a mystery for as long as possible.

What we can see in the poster is Ghostface holding a bloodied knife front and center. The posters for the previous four Scream films have always highlighted the cast/victims in the story, but this poster prominently features the iconic slasher.

2011’s Scream 4 was the last entry in the series from iconic horror filmmaker Wes Craven. After his death in 2015 at the age of 76, many Scream fans felt that the franchise had at last reached its final conclusion. The idea of anyone else but Craven directing seemed unthinkable. Paramount made the decision to bring on directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who used their respect for Craven and his work led them to convince star Neve Campbell to return.

Scream is being produced by Chad Villella of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S, Southbound) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock). Michel Aller is editing the film.

Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Love) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) recently joined an ensemble that also includes Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, as well as new cast members Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (In The Heights) and Jenna Ortega (You). Marley Shelton is also returning as Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks.
