Retail Hell: Product Placement Runs Amok In Trailer For Movie Based On Spirit Halloween Stores
What’s next…a rom-com drawn from the lavender-drenched aisles of Bed Bath and Beyond?
In what may be a triumph for both art and capitalism, Spirit Halloween: The Movie, available for streaming on-demand October 11th, reveals the horrors of being stuck in a spooky-themed costume shop after closing time, and no, it’s not about having to log inventory until 2am.
Instead, Spirit Halloween the store provides the spacious backdrop to the action as well as the reasonably-priced props for a story about a group of kids who manage to bypass store security (note to corporate: 1234 is not a good alarm code) to enjoy a night of mild vandalism and face painting.
Unfortunately for them, the store is haunted, and not just by the ghosts of disgruntled former employees. Instead, this particular location is haunted by a demon, played in flashback by Christopher Lloyd, who is cursed by a witch after he tries to evict her from some property that he hopes to convert into a future failed strip mall, probably.
Spirit Halloween, when it’s not glamming it up as the set of a major motion picture, is actually a pretty cool store, where you can get Halloween costumes, cosplay items, makeup, and tombstones and other props you can use to give your front lawn the exact haunted house energy required to lure trick or treaters to your front porch.
All in all, the movie gives off the sort of vibes you get from an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark or Goosebumps – something you could watch for free in the 1990s. But this has some pretty decent production values and – hey, look, it’s Rachel Leigh Cook from She’s All That! Good for her.
Spirit Halloween: The Movie will also open in theaters, so you can make it a whole themed event and get a group together and go visit the store before you see it,.
