Ryder and ‘Raider’: Lead Actors Announced for Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Movie and ‘Tomb Raider’ Series

Major casting announcements for Disney’s live-action Tangled movie and Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series were announced.
Australian actress Teagan Croft will portray the long-haired captive princess Rapunzel in Tangled (despite her last name, she won’t be playing Lara on Tomb Raider). Milo Manheim, star of Disney Channel’s musical Zombies franchise, will play the outlaw Flynn Rider, Rapunzel’s rescuer.
Croft will play the role voiced by Mandy Moore in the 2010 animated feature, and Manheim, son of actress Camryn Manheim, takes the role played by Zachary Levi. Reportedly, Disney conducted an extensive search for its new Rapunzel and Flynn, including screen tests in London late last year, before landing on the two leads.
The “reimagining” of Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), will, as was the original, be a musical. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Thor: Love and Thunder) wrote the script. Kristin Burr, (Freakier Friday, Cruella), is producing.
The live-action Tangled is due out later this year.
Over at Prime Video, Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter series) and Sigourney Weaver were added to the cast of their Tomb Raider series. Isaacs will play Atlas DeMornay, a key character from the video game that originated the story, and Weaver will play Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious, high-flying woman who may be exploiting Lara Croft. Her character was created for the show.
The show, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will star Sophie Turner in the title role. Also starring are Martin Bobb-Semple who will play Zip, Bill Paterson as Winston, Jack Bannon as Gerry, John Heffernan as David, Celia Imrie as Francine, and Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed and August Wittgenstein round out the cast.
Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) serves as creator, writer, executive co-producer and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. show is based on the video game franchise, following the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. This series is not to be confused with Netflix’s animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which stars the voice of Hayley Atwell and just aired its second and final season.
Prime’s Tomb Raider just started production and is expected to bow in 2027.
