The Hollywood rumor mill has been working overtime lately, but it turns out that what it is producing is pretty low-grade information.

Earlier this week the most intriguing idea we’ve heard in a long time emerged concerning the third Spider-Man movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who each played the webslinger in their own franchise films, would be starring alongside Tom Holland in his next outing.

How that would work in terms of a multi-dimensional realm were interesting concepts, to say the least. The new movie could have taken a page from the animated Into the Spider-Verse, with cross-dimensional versions coming together in our universe.

Of course, Sony shut those rumors right down, but did they do that because it was categorically untrue, or because they didn’t want to ruin the surprise? We don’t have the answers, but we do have this since-deleted Instagram post from Jamie Foxx, who was recently confirmed to return to the world of Spider-Man as Electro, albeit in a different franchise than the one he started in.

Well, that’s not confusing. Maybe Foxx was jumping the gun, maybe he was telling more than he ought to have. We’ll find out, eventually.

Even more baffling, and disappointing, was word coming out today that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) was not cast as She-Hulk for the new Disney+ series. Maslany was set to play attorney Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner’s cousin who in the comic series transforms into the big green gal.

The news was announced last month on multiple news sources, and none other than the current Hulk congratulated her on the new role.

Mark Ruffalo on Twitter

What the hulk, Mark Ruffalo? If he thought it was legit, we can be forgiven for believing the same. But Maslany recently denied the news in an interview with The Sudbury Star, saying “that isn’t a real thing…it’s a press release that’s gotten out of hand.” She continued, “I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten into it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”

Color us bummed. The thought of Maslany, who was simply awesome in multiple roles playing a clone army on Orphan Black, as She-Hulk seemed like the best idea ever.

And if all this isn’t bad enough, it was also just reported that the next James Bond is NOT going to be Harry Styles. Man, Pop Culture Junkies can’t win. Next time we won’t believe anyone is in a movie until we see their name in the credits.
