Will Captain America serve his president, or his conscience?

That seems to be at least one of Sam Wilson’s most pressing problems in the new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, now played by Harrison Ford, who took over the role from the late William Hurt.

Ross asks the new Captain America to serve as an official U.S. Agent, meaning he would be under the command of the president. Sam asks what happens if they disagree on how to handle a situation, but the President does not respond.

There are situations aplenty in the movie though; Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident, with friend and retired super-soldier Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) as the prime suspect, the president’s inner circle appears to be compromised, and a mysterious new villain played by Giancarlo Esposito arrives on the scene, guns blazing.

If that weren’t bad enough, Cap has to deal with the Red Hulk as well.

Brave New World picks up where the series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier left off, with Sam Wilson transitioning from his former identity as The Falcon, Steve Rogers’ backup man, to bearing the shield and all the responsibilities of Captain America.

Liv Tyler returns as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson plays Samuel Sterns, and Shira Haas plays Ruth Bat-Seraph, an Israeli former Black Widow who is now a high-ranking government U.S. official. Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez and Xosha Roquemore also star.

Julius Onah directs from a script by Dalan Musson, Matthew Orton and Malcolm Spellman. Kevin Feige produced with Nate Moore.
