Six Degrees of Killer Bacon: ‘They/Them’ Promises Teens A Safe Space…But In A Blumhouse Film
In the trailer for the new Peacock offering They/Them, Kevin Bacon returns to camp, this time as the adult in charge, but this summer getaway might be worse than Camp Crystal Lake.
Bacon, who was infamously murdered by an arrow through the neck in the first Friday the 13th movie, seems to be the menacing force in They/Them (They Slash Them, get it?). In the movie, Bacon is Owen Whistler, the director of a conversion therapy camp dedicated to “curing” LGBTQ+ teenagers of their sexual and gender identities.
Yeah, that’s not good. During the first week of camp, Whistler antagonizes Jordan (Theo Germaine), a trans and nonbinary teen whose parents will allow them to legally emancipate themself after attending the camp. As Jordan and their fellow campers fight against Whistler and his staff’s cruel methods of “treatment,” a mysterious string of murders begins piling up, forcing Jordan to investigate into the camp’s gruesome secrets.
Carrie Preston also stars in the film as Whistler’s wife and camp therapist Cora, and Anna Chlumsky (Veep) plays the camp’s new medic Molly. Other campers are played by Quei Tann, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, Cooper Koch and Darwin del Fabro.
The movie is written and directed by John Logan, who has also penned Alien: Covenant, Sweeney Todd, Gladiator and Skyfall. This is his directorial debut. The film is a Blumhouse Production, the horror specialty house best known for terrorizing audiences with movies like Get Out, Paranormal Activity and The Purge.
The film streams exclusively on Peacock starting August 5th.
