Smash, Sting: Marvel Announces Hulk and the Scorpion to Join the Cast of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Marvel is casting more heroes and villains for the fourth Spider-Man movie.
Marvel announced that Mark Ruffalo would reprise his role as the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and that Michael Mando will return to play the Scorpion, who briefly appeared in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In addition to the casting news, Marvel Entertainment also released a brief video with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it glimpse of the new Spider-Man suit.
Ruffalo first essayed the role of Dr. Bruce Banner and his super-strong mutated counterpart The Hulk in The Avengers in 2012. He was last seen in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where he appeared in a mid-credits scene alongside Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Benedict Wong as Wong to discuss the titular rings.
Mando played Mac Gargan, who was captured by Spider-Man toward the end of Homecoming, and then appeared in the film’s post-credits scene, where he interacts with Adrian Toomes/the Vulture (Micheal Keaton) about Toomes potentially knowing Spider-Man’s real identity.
Ruffalo and Mando join Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Jacob Batalon as Ned and Zendaya as MJ, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, as well as Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) in unknown roles.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed Shang-Chi, is directing the feature that has regular Spider-Man scribes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers writing the script. Brand New Day has a release date of July 31st, 2026.
