The voice cast of the rebooted Garfield movie just borrowed from the MCU again.

Samuel L. Jackson, aka Nick Fury, joins Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) in the cast of the upcoming animated Garfield reboot. Pratt will star as the Monday-hating, lasagna-loving fat orange cat Garfield and Jackson will play Garfield’s father Vic, a character created for the movie.

No other cast is known at this time, so the actors playing Garfield’s owner Jon Arbuckle and canine nemesis Odie (and others) have yet to be announced.

The film comes from director Mark Dindal (Chicken LittleEmperor’s New Groove) and is based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strip of the same name.

Garfield is one of the best-known comic strips in history, currently holding the Guinness World Record for the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip. The strip appears in 2,580 newspapers and journals, with an estimated readership of 260 million.

Garfield has conquered various other mediums, including television, video games and two live-action films starring Bill Murray as the lazy feline, released in 2004 and 2006.

Those films weren’t well-received critically and didn’t do great box office, so Garfield looked like he was headed into retirement until Viacom Entertainment acquired the rights to the character, along with a new Garfield animated movie that was put into development in 2016.

Jackson will also be lending his voice to the animated Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, which premieres in theaters this July, and reprised his role of Nick Fury in Marvel’s animated What If… series on Disney+. Most recently he starred in the Apple TV+ series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.

No release date for the film has been set.
