The D&D Pop Culture Surge Continues: Trailer For ‘Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ Drops At SDCC
“We didn’t mean to unleash the greatest evil the world has ever known!”
Dungeons and Dragons is back, baby. (Not that it ever went away). The Covid lockdown made the game a popular at-home party game again, and it has been a major plot point in Stranger Things, one of the hottest streaming shows today. And now a trailer for a new D&D movie is enchanting audiences at San Diego Comic Con this week.
In the trailer for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, there is big Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones energy, but with a lighter, more comic touch. Starring Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant, the upcoming Paramount feature leans in to the best part of a D&D campaign: fighting big monsters with your friends at your side.
In the film, a bard (Pine) and a barbarian (Rodriguez). gather to themselves a rag-tag troupe of adventurers, including a skilled warrior (Page), a powerful mage (Justice Smith), and a shape-changing druid (Sophia Lillis) undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.
The film is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, best known for their work on Game Night. Daley is also one of the stars of Freaks and Geeks, where he played a geek with an affinity for the game in one episode.
Honor Among Thieves is expected to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2023.
