Honey is highly flammable? Who knew?

Anyone who watched the new red-band trailer for Jason Statham’s new shoot-em-up thriller The Beekeeper knows that – now.

According to the film’s official description, “in The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as ‘Beekeepers’.”

Statham plays Mr. Clay, who in more serene times creates a garden and sets up beehives for his neighbor, played by Phylicia Rashad.

Rashad tells him, “This place was crabgrass and weeds and you brought it back to life.” The film’s sweet tone soon ends, as Mr. Clay’s neighbor falls prey to a ransomware scammer, played by Josh Hutcherson, that causes her to take her own life. It goes without saying that Clay will seek vengeance for this misdeed.

It also should go without saying that this is no mere one-off cyberscam – the corruption goes all the way to the top – and so does Statham, guns a-blazing.

The movie buzzes into theaters on January 12th of next year.
