The Ones Who Knocked: Giancarlo Esposito Confirmed to Appear in ‘Captain America’ in a ‘Villainous’ Role
The MCU came knocking and Giancarlo Esposito opened the door to a role in the new Captain America movie.
The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star hinted in a post on Twitter,“The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict. It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards.”
Friday, it was confirmed that Esposito has joined the cast of Captain America: Brave New World, currently in the reshoot phase in Atlanta.
During a panel at the CCXP fanfest in Brazil earlier this month, Esposito gave some veiled clues about his characters. “There’s something about being original. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X,” going on to say, “wouldn’t you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”
Esposito has also appeared in The Mandalorian and has lent his voice to other superhero projects, like Harley Quinn, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Son of Batman, and Batman: Assault on Arkham.
So far, there is no more information about his character than that. The new Captain America movie stars Anthonie Mackie as Sam Wilson, who picked up Captain America’s shield after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers retired from the MCU.
The cast also includes Liv Tyler, Harrison Ford, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, Rosa Salazar, Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly.
Julius Onah is directing the film based on a script from Dalan Musson and Falcon and the Winter Soldier writer Malcolm Spellman. The film is said to pick up after the events of the Disney+ series. Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released on February 14th, 2025.
