Happy Gilmore is back on the Pro circuit.

Netflix announced during its Upfront on Wednesday that it will be producing Happy Gilmore 2, sequel to the 1996 comedy starring Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and Carl Weathers.

The original Happy Gilmore was directed by Dennis Dugan and remains one of Sandler’s most popular films. It grossed over $82 million globally and earned a cult following. Sandler and Tim Herlihy wrote the script

In the film, Sandler plays Happy Gilmore, a hockey player with anger management issues who discovers he’s also got a talent for golf. Happy joins the golf tour circuit to win money to save his grandmother’s house and must compete against an arrogant pro named Shooter McGavin (McDonald.)

According to Variety, it was McDonald who first hinted there would be a sequel. Back in March, he said that Sandler pulled out the first draft for the film during an unexpected run-in.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” McDonald said. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ [And] I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!

McDonald is reportedly in talks to return for the sequel.

Sandler has produced several films for Netflix, like The Ridiculous SixMurder Mystery and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah as part of an overall deal with the platform. There is no word on when the film would start production or be released.
