As Clarence the angel said in the holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life, “Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”

That holds doubly true for Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop, Yellowjackets, Tragedy Girls), in It’s a Wonderful Knife, coming to theaters this November. In it, Winnie’s quick thinking and heroic acts save her friends, family and her town from a maniacal killer on Christmas Eve, but she has a less than stellar followup year.

Winnie is our George Bailey in this movie, which riffs on the Jimmy Stewart holiday staple. When, under a mysterious light in the sky, she wishes she’d never been born, her wish comes true – but with unforseen consequences. Only too late does she realize the awful hole she’s left in her world: in a timeline where she never existed, the killer was never caught.
