Tom Holland Could Stay in the Spider-Verse as Sony Producer Teases Three More Marvel Spider-Man Movies
It’s not time to say goodbye to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man just yet. Possibly.
Sony producer Amy Pascal told Fandango that there are plans for three more movies starring Holland as Spidey. “This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” she said.
“We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies…Yes, Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners.”
While that sounds hopeful, it’s worth noting that this hasn’t been confirmed yet, and new contracts for Holland and his co-star Zendaya and director Jon Watts. These sources do note that the Sony and Marvel studios do have had a great working relationship of late, that does not constitute a confirmation of a trilogy at this point.
Still, with the upcoming release of sure-to-be-a-blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s probable that the lucrative continuing partnership between the two (and stars Holland and Zendaya) is something everyone will try to keep going.
Pascal has worked on the current era of Spider-Man films, from Spider-Man: Homecoming to the Venom movies to the animated Into the Spider-Verse, and she has displayed enthusiasm for the Spider-verse in multiple interviews.
In a profile on Holland published by GQ this month, the producer said she already spoke with the 25-year-old English actor about “doing, like, 100 more” movies. “I’m never going to make Spider-Man movies without him,” she said. “Are you kidding me?”
That same article quoted Tom Holland, who didn’t exactly seem to share his producer’s attitude, though.
“Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film,” he said, referencing the Afro-Latino Spider-Man created by comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli. “I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life.”
He added, “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.” Holland is 25.
