Michael B. Jordan, who is directing a remake of the Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon Studios, has tapped his Black Panther co-star Danai Gurira to join the cast.
She joins Taylor Russell along with recently-announced casts members Lily Gladstone and Kenneth Branagh for the film, which will star Jordan as the title character. In previous films based on the character, Thomas Crown was a wealthy thrill-seeker who organized high-stakes robberies for sport.
Steve McQueen played the title character in the 1968 original and Faye Dunaway played his foil, Vicki Anderson who investigates the robberies and finds Crown to be a person of interest, romantically as well as criminally.
In the 1998 remake of the romantic heist film, Pierce Brosnan played Crown and Rene Russo played insurance investigator Catherine Banning.
Russell will play Crown’s romantic nemesis in Jordan’s version. According to sources, Gurira will play Jordan’s confidante in the film and character details for Gladstone and Branagh are being kept under wraps.
Jordan’s version of The Thomas Crown Affair is being described as a “reimagining,” and was scripted by Drew Pearce. Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson penned an earlier draft that was closer to the original film. Alan Trustman, who wrote the script for the original, will serve as executive producer.
This is Jordan’s second directorial effort. He made his debut behind the lens with Creed III.
Filming begins this in London this month, with MGM officially setting a theatrical-only release date of March 5th, 2027
