‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Reboot Adds ‘John Wick’ Star Lance Reddick, More To Cast
It’s a casting slam dunk.
Lance Reddick, who plays Charon, the unflappable Hotel Continental concierge in every John Wick movie, is joining the cast of 20th Century Studios’ remake of the 1992 classic White Men Can’t Jump.
Teyana Taylor (Coming 2 America) and Laura Harrier (Hollywood) are also joining the cast, which includes previously announced cast members Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls.
The upcoming film is a new take on Ron Shelton’s irreverent sports comedy, which starred Woody Harrelson, Wesley Snipes and Rosie Perez. Harrelson and Snipes played Black and white basketball hustlers who joined forces to double their chances of winning money on the street courts and in a basketball tournament.
Harlow will assume the role originated by Harrelson, with Walls taking on Snipes’ character. Reddick will play Benji Allen, the father of Walls’ character Kamal. Benji is living with MS and has been Kamal’s coach and support system since a very young age.
White Men Can’t Jump recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at the 94th Academy Awards, with Harrelson, Snipes and Perez in attendance. Veteran music video director Calmatic, who lensed the upcoming House Party remake for New Line, will direct the reboot.
Aside from his work in the John Wick franchise, Reddick is best known for films like Godzilla vs. Kong, One Night in Miami…, Sylvie’s Love, Angel Has Fallen, Little Woods, Old Boy and White House Down, among many others.
His numerous TV credits include Bosch, Young Sheldon, Paradise PD, Corporate, Castlevania, American Horror Story, Fringe, Lost, The Wire and Oz. Reddick will also appear in Netflix’s Resident Evil series, debuting in July. He’s currently in production opposite Regina King on the Netflix film Shirley, and will reprise his role as Wick’s ally in Chapter 4, coming out next March.
Taylor, an actress and singer-songwriter, has appeared in films like The Trap, The After Party, Honey: Rise Up and Dance, Madea’s Big Happy Family and Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming, among others.
Harrier has appeared in films including The Starling, BlacKkKlansman, Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Last Five Years. Her credits on the TV side include Unforgettable.
