2021 Grammy Performers Announced; See Who Will Be Performing ‘Together, but Apart’
The show must go on, and the stars will still shine, albeit some ways apart.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, BTS, Billie Eilish, Miranda Lambert, Post Malone, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift are among the top talent set to perform in “together, but still safely apart” production of the 63rd Grammy Award Show on Sunday, March 14th.
Other artists performing at the 2021 Grammys include Bad Bunny, Black Pumas, Brandi Carlile, Brittany Howard, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Mickey Guyton, HAIM, Lil Baby, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Maren Morris, and Roddy Ricch.
The show’s location is an undisclosed building in Los Angeles, but producer Ben Winston teases that the new venue is “massive,” “magical,” and “the biggest building I’ve ever been in indoors,” he told Rolling Stone. He says he’s open to bringing the Grammys back to the Staples Center arena in the future if they ask him to, but for this he wanted to go above and beyond to make even the most-skeptical participants feel undoubtedly safe.
A team of Covid safety officers oversaw the production set-up. Artists will enter the stage from different directions to minimize contact, with each artist having their own backstage area. The space “allowed us to build an entire world,” he says.
The production has five stages, four for performances and one for presenters. “People will perform while the other three or four artists on their stages watch, applaud, and enjoy. As soon as that one finishes, the next one goes, the next one goes, and the next one goes. Every 45 minutes, you change out those stages, and you bring another four megastars into the room,” says Winston.
Presenters for the show were chosen to pay tribute to independent venues which have been greatly impacted by the pandemic. From bartenders to box office managers, those who work day-to-day at the Troubadour (Los Angeles), the Hotel Café (Los Angeles), the Apollo Theater (New York City), and the Station Inn (Nashville) will be allowed to present various categories throughout the night.
Hosted by Trevor Noah, the show airs live on March 14 starting at 8pm Eastern time on CBS. The show also will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount Plus.
