Being for the Benefit of Los Angeles: Ringo Starr and Friends Record Concert Special for Those Affected by Wildfires
Ringo Starr believes that all you gotta do is act altruistically.
Starr, the drummer for The Beatles, last week released a country music album called Look Up, and he’s using the occasion to look out for those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires, still currently raging across the area. Starr and some of his friends are performing a benefit concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on January 14th and 15th.
The concert, dubbed Ringo & Friends at the Ryman, and which will air on CBS television and the Paramount+ streaming network sometime in the spring, will feature performances by Starr, Jack White, Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings, Rodney Crowell, Mickey Guyton, Emmylou Harris, Sarah Jarosz, Jamey Johnson, Brenda Lee, Larkin Poe, Molly Tuttle, and The War on Drugs
The setlist is also expected to include the whole gang doing a new rendition of “With a Little Help From My Friends.” Proceeds from its release will benefit the American Red Cross’ Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts.
“I’m excited to hear my songs done in a country vein and to play with this incredible group of musicians,” Starr said in a statement. “It will be two nights of peace, love and country music.”
Starr’s new album features countrified versions of songs from his catalog and Beatles classics like “Boys,” “Act Naturally,” “Yellow Submarine,” “Don’t Pass Me By,” and “It Don’t Come Easy,” It was produced and co-written by T Bone Burnett, and recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles, featuring contributions from Alison Krauss, Strings, Poe, Lucius, Tuttle, and more.
