‘But Here We Are’: Foo Fighters Release Their First Album Since Death of Drummer Taylor Hawkins
The Foo Fighters are ready to be “Rescued.”
The band released the first new song, called “Rescued,” from the Foo’s upcoming album, But Here We Are, scheduled to drop on June 2nd on their label Roswell Records/RCA Records. It’s their first new release since 2021’s Medicine at Midnight.
A press release for the album says But Here We Are is a “brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year.” In March of 2022, the band lost drummer Taylor Hawkins, who spent 25 years behind the kit for the band. Hawkins died March 25, 2022, just before the band was set to perform at a festival in Bogota, Colombia.
But Here We Are marks the first Foo Fighters record since 1997’s The Colour And The Shape that Hawkins does not play on, and the drummer on the new song and album has not yet been identified.
“Sonically channelling the naiveté of Foo Fighters’ 1995 debut, informed by decades of maturity and depth, But Here We Are is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life,” the press release continues.
The new album, the band’s 11th, is produced by Foo Fighters and Greg Kurstin. A lyric video for “Rescued” is posted above. The Foo Fighters’ current lineup consists of Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffe.
