Selena Gomez will soon be visiting “Blue Bayou”.

No, she’s not headed for Louisiana, as far as we know, but she will be portraying music legend (and the voice behind “Blue Bayou”) Linda Ronstadt in a new biopic.

Just before beginning a social media break, Gomez posted an Instagram story featuring an image of Linda Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams on her lap. After that, Rolling Stone magazine confirmed that the singer/actor was cast as Ronstadt in a new film from producer James Keach and Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan.

Ronstadt, a multi-platinum performer who was the most successful female singer of the 1970s (and one of the most successful female recording artists in US history) is known for such hits as “You’re No Good,” “Silver Threads and Golden Needles,” “Somewhere Out There,” “Don’t Know Much,” and “Different Drum” – to name but a few.

The Tucson-born Ronstadt’s career began in the 1960s when she moved to Los Angeles and formed the band the Stone Poneys with two friends. Rondstadt went solo soon after, and recorded hit after hit, whether on her own or collaborating with artists like James Ingram, Aaron Neville, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. She has won 1eleven Grammy awards.

Ronstadt retired from performing in 2011, and later revealed she was no longer able to sing due to a condition called progressive supranuclear palsy. Ronstadt was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was honored by the Kennedy Center. A documentary about her life, The Sound of My Voice, produced by Keach, was released in 2019.

Details about the film have not been released. Gomez, of course, is both a singer and actress, winning acclaim for her performance in Only Murders in the Building and she starred in starred in Hotel Transylvania 4 in 2022. Her latest hit is “Single Soon” from her upcoming album.
