Samuel L. Jackson 101: Glass
This week, The Junkies take the last of their in-depth looks into beloved actor Samuel L. Jackson’s most iconic roles by watching Glass, the final in M. Night Shyamalan’s superhero trilogy that began with Unbreakable and continued with Split. This movie reunites Jackson with Bruce Willis, the hero of Unbreakable, and serves as Mr. Glass’s origin story (James McAvoy rounds out the cast.) The Junkies compare these superhero tales to the Marvel and DC canon, as well as discussing the entire Shyamalan oeuvre. Nicole likes this more realistic (read: less CGI) take on superheroes and supervillains, while Alex appreciates the transformation Jackson makes in the film, from mute and ineffective to the movie’s big bad. He might also cosplay in Jackson’s sweet, sweet villain outfit. Hayley wants to know what in the Stockholm Syndrome is pushing Anya Taylor-Joy’s character into making such questionable choices, and everyone gives their final grades to this and all the Samuel L. Jackson movies we watched for this class.
You can prepare for the next class, which will focus on a new subject,
Winona Ryder, by watching Beetlejuice.
