Star-Lord gets around.

Though not known for having a lot of lovers (he is Kitty Pryde’s ex and Gamora’s current beau,) Peter Quill finds himself with a boyfriend and a girlfriend in the newest edition of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic.

The latest edition, titled “I Shall Make You a Star-Lord” of Guardians of the Galaxy #9 finds Quill spending almost 150 years in a strange land where he befriends a pair of humanoids, the female Aradia and the male Mors, eventually entering into a relationship with both around the 12-year mark.

Previously on The Guardians of the Galaxy: after using the Elemental Gun to rid Earth-616 of the New Olympians, Quill was teleported to a mysterious new land called Morinus, which is a city-state built on the back of a massive sea turtle. Quill ends up spending hundreds of years here as he learns more about the land and the couple that rescued him.

One year after Quill’s arrival, Aradia and Mors invite him to share their bed. Star-Lord declines, thinking he can still find the opportunity to return to his universe and rekindle his relationship with Gamora.

Moving forward a decade, Quill is still stuck on Morinus, so he decides to submit to the love triangle, getting intimate in a reflective pool in a color-saturated scene. “It’s been over a decade,” Quill says to the pair. “Time to accept the truth…Morinus is my home. You’re my home.”

The New Olympians find the trio on Morinus and pursue them for the next decade. In one of the panels in the midst of this chase sequence, Aradia can be seen pregnant. Coupled with the fact Quill asks Aradia sometime later to make sure “Rocky” is alright, it’s completely possible Quill could be a new father as well.

Created by Steve Englehart and Steve Gan for 1976’s Marvel Preview #4, Star-Lord has been at the forefront of most of Marvel’s major cosmic events. Comics of recent years have altered Star-Lord by stripping him of some of his trademark gadgets and much of his sense of duty to more closely resemble his depiction by Chris Pratt in the MCU adaptations beginning with Guardians of the Galaxy.

Speaking of Chris Pratt: will the Marvel Cinematic Universe apply this new aspect of Star-Lord’s personality to Chris Pratt’s character?

Movie Quill is romantically involved with Gamora (or at least, he was with the original version of the character Thanos killed in Avengers: Infinity War) but Kevin Feige has said he is committed to more diversity in the MCU, so there’s always a chance that James Gunn could be inspired to introduce some queer representation by broadening Peter’s sexual orientation. Director Taika Waiti is the next to depict the character, though, as Star-Lord appears in Thor: Love and Thunder, so stay tuned.
