Imagine your child squealing with delight as you read “C is for Chestburster!” (Don’t forget to add the sound effects.)

In totally serious book news, Penguin Random House is publishing a Little Golden Book called A is for Alien: An ABC Book. The book is based on Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie Alien, which starred Sigourney Weaver.

The book, described as a “light-hearted reimagining,” will teach budding sci-fi fans the alphabet using illustrations of Weaver’s character Ripley and her shipmates aboard the Nostromo. Given that it’s being called light-hearted, that is presumably before they were gruesomely dispatched by the Xenomorph on board.

Jonesy the cat, who was Ripley’s companion in the Alien movies, is featured on the cover.

An official description of A Is for Alien: An ABC Book reads, “In space no one can hear you giggle as you read this Little Golden Book featuring the characters from the classic movie Alien! Follow Ripley and the rest of the Nostromo crew on a space adventure that introduces the alphabet from A to Z. With fun illustrations, this light-hearted reimagining of the iconic movie Alien will delight fans young and old, as well as Little Golden Book collectors [throughout] the universe.”

Little Golden Book has published books based on other, more adult-oriented media, such as the PG-13 rated films Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park, and the sitcom The Office has also been adapted for the series. Little Golden Books has rarely, if ever, adapted an IP that is so squarely aimed at adults, though.

The book is slated to be published on July 9th, 2024, just before a new Alien feature film called Alien: Romulus, hits theaters a few weeks later on August 16th. In addition, FX is developing a live-action series set in the Alien universe, though that is not expected to be ready until 2025.
