The Trickster’s newest adventure looks to be another hit for Marvel and Disney+.

Loki is Marvel’s newest series on Disney+ that premiered its first episode Wednesday. Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as the titular character in this six episode series that is being directed by Kate Herron.

The story begins immediately after Loki’s escape during the events of Avengers: Endgame. After obtaining the Tesseract and escaping The Avengers’ custody, the god of mischief finds himself quickly recaptured by a group of agents from the Time Variance Authority.

The TVA is an organization whose goal is to maintain the sanctity of the main timeline which was established by beings known as Time-Keepers. The agency captures those who disrupt the Timeline – known as Variants – and restore the damages they’ve made to it, resetting the timeline.

Loki, once apprehended learns he is one of these Variants, but instead of being reset he is given a deal by Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) in return for helping him apprehend other Variants Loki will not be reset. But before Loki accepts he gets up to his classic mischief and attempts an escape, ultimately realizing the power of the TVA and after being shown the past and future of the non-variant Loki, namely seeing his own death, he resigns from his escape attempts and agrees to help the TVA.

The first episode is pretty good, giving the story some fun direction and a good soundtrack. Hiddleston has some good acting moments and the story helps you get back in touch with his character – or at least this version of his character. And the identity of one of the variants in the show should make some viewers happy.

The remaining five episodes will seemingly be spent tracking down a mysterious variant who has been killing members of the TVA. The series will be airing on Wednesdays for the next six weeks, so be sure to keep watching to see how the mischief unfolds.
