He’s not James Bond (yet), but Idris Elba is taking on another thriller.

Elba will star and executive produce the Apple TV+ limited series Hijack, from creator George Kay (Lupin.)

Hijack will take place in real time over seven episodes. The show is described as a “tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and authorities on the ground scramble for answers,” according to the official logline. Elba will play Sam Nelson, “an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers,” and whose “high-risk strategy could be his undoing.”

Elba, who has also starred in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Hobbs & Shaw recently, will executive produce the series, which comes from 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions in association with Elba’s Green Door. The series is part of his first-look deal with the popular streaming service.

George Kay has been tapped to write the series with Jim Field Smith helming. Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta of 60Forty are producing alongside Kris Thykier.

The Luther star is also preparing a feature-length version of the show for the BBC and Netflix.
