Announced Back In 2020, ‘Lando’ Series Seems To Be Moving Ahead – But Will Donald Glover Star?
When Lando goes solo from Solo, we may be seeing Donald Glover in the role again.
Donald Glover told GQ magazine that he is “in talks” to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in the long-awaited Lando series, which the streamer announced way back in 2020. Glover first played the young version of Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
“I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time to be him,” Glover told the magazine. “It just needs to be the right way to do it. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s just gonna be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that l enjoy. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be.”
Glover teased the possibility in an interview where he recounted his most iconic characters.
“He’s right, Lando is charm incarnate,” Glover said. “He’s kind of a maverick, which I don’t think there’s a lot of anymore. It’s hard to be a smooth talker nowadays ’cause, where’s the line? But I think that’s also where the danger is. It’s like, how close can you get without tripping over it?”
Glover didn’t give too much more information, saying, “Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with — we’re talking about it, that’s as much as I can say without Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”
The Lando series has survived the recent reorganization of previously-announced Disney Star Wars projects, which included scrapped Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins movies.
The series was announced in December of 2020, with Disney saying, “The galaxy’s favourite scoundrel, Lando Calrissian, will return in Lando, a brand-new event series for Disney+. Justin Simien is in the early stages of developing the project.”
