There’s no sorting hat in The School of Good and Evil.

Students must choose between light or dark magic in the movie, which premieres on Netflix next week. Based on the internationally bestselling book series by Soman Chainani, The School of Good and Evil follows best friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) who dreams of escaping her dreary life to become a princess, and Agatha (Sofia Wylie), who has the makings (and inclination) to become a witch.

One night under a blood red moon, a powerful force sweeps them away to the School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. Sophie knows she’ll be picked for the School for Good and join the ranks of past students like Cinderella and Snow White. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her grim aesthetic and wicked cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil. Yet soon the girls find their fortunes reversed.

Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington star as Lady Lesso and Professor Dovey, leaders of the Evil and Good schools, respectively, who act as mentors for the girls. The film also stars Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Flatters, Kit Young, Peter Serafinowicz and Ben Kingsley, and is directed by Paul Feig.
